If you are the boss or have responsibility for a department or team of people do you feel a responsibility to know all the answers and be capable of solving all the problems? What happens when you don’t – are you deemed a failure? Do you just make up an answer?

Unfortunately in business today all too often individuals believe they are expected to know all the answers because that’s why they were hired or promoted in the first place. That brings with it enormous pressure. The good news is that they don’t need to be able to solve all the problems themselves but in the words of the famous AA commercial they just need to know 'a man who can'.

Lots of people know the answers to simple questions or questions that have been asked before but when the questions are new and more complicated individuals tend to have hunches rather than answers. They know part of the answer but not all of it. Bring enough people with hunches together and collectively they will be able to work out the answer.

So take the monkey off your back, of being expected to know all the answers, by creating an environment that enables lots of smart individuals with partly formed hunches to co-create the answer with you.

If you are asking yourself ‘what’s the best way of doing that?’ and you don’t know the answer, you do know 'a man who can' – just give us a call.
