Collaboration is very important in creating a motivating work environment.

A recent survey conducted for Training Magazine http://bit.ly/qp2SA3 showed that collaboration was the second most important organisational factor (after the fairness of decision making) in creating a motivating work environment.

The research showed that:

“People want to have a sense that they work in an environment where people share information within and across departments and business units. People want to work in an environment where they can collaborate with others in a way that allows them to draw from the best minds in the organisation to work on a common problem”

Creating an environment of collaboration is not easy. Everyone is constantly under time pressure. It’s difficult to get people together at the same time, especially when they don’t even work in the same office. But you can easily overcome these problems when you start to think about virtual environments rather than physical ones.

Then you can bring together the right people from within and outside your organisation. Get the right people and they will have the collective knowledge and intelligence to solve most problems. Different people know different bits of the solution.

It’s also important to select and guide collaborative teams to tackle together the challenges in front of them - making sure you have the right mix of idea generators, refiners and finishers.

As well as having the right people you need to have the right environment to enable them to come together to capture & share insights, generate ideas and develop action plans. In exactly the same way as there are rules for creating the ideal physical environment there are equally important ones for creating the perfect virtual environment.

Which is why we have created our own ‘virtual environment’ to promote collaboration and innovation – we call it Wiki-Labs. Our Wiki-Labsare fully facilitated on-line environments that are open 24/7 and have been designed to overcome the traditional barriers to innovation and collaborative working.

If you would like to know more about how we can create a virtual environment for you to drive collaboration in your organisation just find 40 minutes in your diary when we can pop in and see you.

We’ll also show you how Wiki-Labscan help you improve the other key factors in the research that improve employee engagement namely: Fairness of Decision Making, Autonomy, Meaningful Work, Feedback, Workload Balance, Task Variety, Performance Expectations and Growth.
